A contracted healthcare worker stationed at the Fulton County Jail has been taken into custody and faces felony charges after law enforcement officials uncovered an illicit scheme involving the delivery of unauthorized prescription medication to an incarcerated individual. The arrest follows an internal investigation that revealed the medical professional was engaged in an undisclosed romantic relationship with the inmate who received the drugs.

Authorities formally identified the suspect as 36-year-old Shakimia G. Johnson. Following an investigation conducted by detention officials, Johnson was arrested on September 14 and charged with a felony offense for allegedly providing prohibited prescription substances to an inmate without proper authorization. Following her processing into the criminal justice system, a judge established her bond at $10,000.

According to official findings documented by the Fulton County Sheriff's Office, Johnson shared a preexisting personal connection with inmate Caleb Sims, who was residing in the county detention facility. Investigators established that the pair maintained a romantic relationship that had been kept entirely hidden from jail leadership, healthcare supervisors, and security administration prior to the discovery of the illicit deliveries.

Investigators determined that Johnson knowingly brought prescription medication into the facility specifically to give to Sims, despite knowing that he had no legal or clinical basis to receive the substances. Official records confirmed that Sims did not have an active prescription, nor was there any authorized medical order from a licensed physician permitting him to obtain or consume the medication.

Supervisory personnel representing the contracted medical provider at the jail conducted their own internal review of the circumstances and corroborated the findings of law enforcement. The supervisory staff confirmed that Sims lacked an active medical directive for the drugs at the time of the event. Furthermore, supervisors verified that no documentation or clinical charting existed to account for the administration of the medication, representing a severe departure from standard correctional healthcare practices.

Physical security systems within the Fulton County Jail played a pivotal role in exposing the illicit transactions. Investigators carefully analyzed institutional surveillance camera footage, which captured Johnson entering the secure housing area where Sims was held. The video recordings revealed that she gained entry to the secure living quarters under the direct pretense of performing routine patient medication rounds.

Once inside the housing unit, the video evidence clearly showed that Johnson did not follow legitimate medical distribution protocols. Instead, surveillance footage captured her approaching Sims directly and hand-delivering items into his possession. This recorded exchange provided investigators with conclusive visual evidence demonstrating that the nurse was bypassing established distribution safeguards to transfer unauthorized materials directly to the inmate.

In addition to physical surveillance footage, investigators gathered extensive electronic and telecommunication records that substantiated the close personal ties between the contract nurse and the inmate. The investigative team identified approximately 144 separate communications between Johnson and Sims. This extensive trail of contact included recorded telephone conversations conducted through the jail's phone network as well as private exchanges carried out across social media platforms.

Faced with substantial documentary, electronic, and video evidence, Johnson was brought in for formal questioning by jail investigators. According to statements released by the sheriff's office, Johnson admitted during the interview that she had indeed brought the unauthorized prescription medication into the facility and personally delivered the substances to Sims, thereby confirming the core findings of the inquiry.

The arrest prompted a stern response from Fulton County Sheriff Patrick "Pat" Labat, who reiterated the agency’s uncompromising commitment to institutional security and operational integrity. Labat emphasized that the sheriff's office enforces an absolute zero-tolerance policy against any individuals—whether directly employed staff members or third-party contractors—who engage in actions that compromise the safety and security of the detention center.

Sheriff Labat underscored the severe consequences awaiting any professional who breaches institutional protocols, noting that exploiting a medical role for illicit purposes will not be tolerated. He made it clear that manipulating healthcare privileges to deliver unauthorized items to inmates represents a fundamental breach of duty that will consistently result in immediate arrest and aggressive criminal prosecution through the judicial system.

The incident places a spotlight on the critical need for vigilant oversight regarding contracted service workers in correctional environments. Healthcare professionals operating inside detention facilities are entrusted with significant access to restricted areas and vulnerable populations. When individuals abuse that trust to smuggle contraband, it creates substantial operational vulnerabilities and poses risks to the overall safety of the inmate population and staff alike.

The successful detection of the illicit deliveries also illustrates the vital importance of multi-layered surveillance and accountability mechanisms within modern penal institutions. By cross-referencing high-definition security camera footage with electronic phone logs, social media activity, and strict pharmaceutical auditing, investigators were able to build a cohesive case and identify the full scope of the unauthorized conduct.

Sheriff Labat concluded by reaffirming that the Fulton County Sheriff's Office remains steadfast in holding accountable anyone who betrays the trust required to maintain order within the facility. As the felony case against Johnson moves forward in the court system, the sheriff's office aims to send a clear message that illicit conduct within the facility's walls will be met with decisive legal action.
