Texas Mother Faces Criminal Charges After Striking Son at Moore Elementary and Threatening Campus Shooting

A Texas mother is facing serious felony and misdemeanor charges after campus administrators witnessed her repeatedly hitting her young child on school grounds and subsequently threatening to commit a mass shooting at the facility, according to court documents recently made public.

The suspect, identified in court records as Shanika Hatcher, has been formally charged with injury to a child as well as making a terroristic threat. The disturbing sequence of events took place at Moore Elementary School, a campus operating within the Cypress-Fairbanks Independent School District in the greater Houston area.

According to detailed filings submitted in court, the incident occurred on February 11 when school administrators at Moore Elementary observed Hatcher physically assaulting her young son. The visible physical confrontation on school premises prompted educational staff to immediately intervene in an attempt to protect the student and de-escalate the volatile situation.

Subsequent reviews of school surveillance recordings corroborated the initial observations of staff members, showing a prolonged and severe pattern of physical aggression. Investigators reviewing the video evidence confirmed that Hatcher was captured on camera striking her young son at least 13 separate times during the incident on school property.

Beyond the documented physical violence, investigative records reveal additional disturbing behavioral allegations intended to humiliate the young student. Court documents state that Hatcher allegedly forced her son to wear a dress to school as a deliberate tactic designed to cause him emotional distress and embarrassment in front of peers and educators.

In response to the unfolding disturbance on campus grounds, Cy-Fair ISD police officers were dispatched to intervene and manage the mother's actions. Officers escorted Hatcher into the school's main administrative office in an attempt to remove the conflict from common areas and conduct an official inquiry.

However, the presence of district law enforcement officers did little to calm the situation. Once inside the administrative suite, records show that Hatcher became increasingly agitated and angry, turning the focus of her frustration toward other family grievances and alleging that her daughter was also experiencing persistent bullying at the school.

Seeking an immediate confrontation and response from leadership, Hatcher demanded an unscheduled, on-the-spot conference with the campus principal to discuss the bullying allegations involving her daughter. Staff members in the office informed her that the principal was currently unavailable to take an unscheduled meeting at that time.

Upon being told that school administrators were unable to meet with her right away, Hatcher’s agitation reportedly escalated into open hostility. Court filings allege that she began issuing aggressive verbal threats toward employees working inside the front office, culminating in an explicit declaration that she would return to shoot up the elementary school.

The nature of the threats and physical abuse led prosecutors to file formal criminal charges against Hatcher for both the physical harm inflicted upon a minor and the terroristic threats directed against the educational institution, its staff, and the wider campus community.

Despite the severe nature of the allegations and the fact that criminal charges were formally submitted more than six months ago, court records reveal that law enforcement authorities have still been unable to take Hatcher into custody or execute the outstanding arrest warrants.

Officials with Cy-Fair ISD confirmed that the school district's police department holds active, open warrants for Hatcher’s arrest. District authorities noted that their officers have made multiple attempts over the preceding months to serve the warrants and locate the suspect, but all attempts have thus far been unsuccessful.

Independent attempts to establish contact with Hatcher have also failed to yield responses. Local reporters with ABC13 visited the residential address listed in public and official records to seek comment regarding the open charges and allegations, but no one answered or made contact with journalists at the property.

State child welfare authorities were also notified about the events that transpired at the elementary campus. Child Protective Services confirmed that the agency conducted an inquiry and looked into the case, although officials stated that no information was available regarding whether formal protective actions or interventions were taken.

The ongoing inability of authorities to locate Hatcher has raised persistent questions regarding the current safety, well-being, and whereabouts of her children. Educational officials confirmed that the children no longer appear to be enrolled in any schools within Cy-Fair ISD, leaving their current location unknown.

As open warrants remain active with district police, law enforcement officials continue their efforts to locate and apprehend Hatcher, while school administrators maintain safety measures designed to protect campuses from threats of violence and ensure child welfare standards are upheld.
