Federal Raid on Luxury Downtown Los Angeles Apartment Yields 110 Pounds of Narcotics, Weapons, and a Baby Alligator

A multi-agency federal law enforcement operation targeting an alleged narcotics distribution hub inside a high-end downtown Los Angeles apartment led to the seizure of more than 110 pounds of illicit drugs, specialized manufacturing hardware, high-powered firearms, and a live baby alligator, authorities confirmed.

The coordinated raid resulted in the arrests of two residents, identified by the U.S. Department of Justice as 27-year-old Marvin Angelito and 26-year-old Susan Gonzalez. Both individuals now face serious federal narcotics charges after investigators uncovered what they described as a heavily supplied stash house operating behind the doors of an upscale residential complex.

According to federal prosecutors, the operation took place on Thursday, September 10, following an intensive joint investigation. Armed with a federal search warrant, law enforcement personnel entered the luxury apartment, which authorities explicitly categorized as a known drug trafficking location utilized for housing and packaging large quantities of dangerous narcotics.

Upon breaching and searching the premises, investigators uncovered an extensive cache of illicit substances that exceeded 110 pounds in aggregate weight. The overwhelming majority of the haul consisted of fentanyl, a synthetic opioid that continues to drive widespread overdose fatalities across the United States.

According to official figures released by the Department of Justice, agents confiscated approximately 42.6 kilograms—equivalent to about 93.9 pounds—of fentanyl. The lethal substance was discovered stored in multiple forms, including mass quantities of manufactured pills as well as loose powder ready for compounding and distribution.

In addition to the massive volume of fentanyl, investigators located other major categories of controlled substances scattered throughout the downtown apartment. The seizure included approximately 7.2 kilograms (15.9 pounds) of cocaine, alongside roughly one kilogram (2.2 pounds) of heroin, pointing to a diversified illicit distribution ring.

Federal authorities also gathered extensive physical evidence demonstrating that the luxury residence functioned as a full-scale narcotics laboratory and processing site. Agents discovered a wide array of chemical and packaging paraphernalia, including laboratory-grade beakers, motorized mixers, mechanical stirrers, heating torches, and a heavy-duty hydraulic press commonly utilized to compress bulk powder into dense transportable bricks.

Beyond the extensive chemical supply and lab equipment, federal agents discovered a dangerous stockpile of weaponry kept inside the residential unit. Among the seized items was an AR-15-style semi-automatic rifle, as well as a distinctive gold-plated Desert Eagle .50-caliber handgun, accompanied by caches of matching ammunition.

Investigators on the scene also recovered an operational police radio, an item frequently utilized by illicit drug trafficking syndicates to monitor local law enforcement communications, track emergency responses, and evade impending police interference during high-stakes distribution activities.

The search also took an unusual turn when federal personnel encountered an exotic live reptile kept inside the luxury apartment. Agents discovered a small baby alligator housed within an aquarium, adding an unexpected environmental and wildlife dimension to the criminal raid.

Following the discovery of the live reptile, federal authorities contacted specialized wildlife personnel. Officials confirmed that agents from the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service were dispatched to the downtown location to safely take custody of the alligator and remove it from the apartment.

Following their arrests on September 10, Angelito and Gonzalez were transferred into federal custody and made their initial appearances before a federal magistrate judge in United States District Court in Los Angeles on Monday, September 14.

During the initial court proceedings, the presiding magistrate judge ordered Angelito to remain detained in federal custody without bail pending the outcome of upcoming legal proceedings. Gonzalez, by contrast, was granted conditional release after posting a $15,000 bond.

Both defendants stand formally charged in a federal criminal complaint with possession of fentanyl with intent to distribute. Neither Angelito nor Gonzalez entered formal pleas during their initial court appearance on Monday, and both individuals are scheduled to return before the court for their formal arraignment hearings in October.

The legal stakes facing the two defendants are extraordinarily high under federal statutes governing major narcotics offenses. If they are ultimately convicted on the drug distribution charges, Angelito and Gonzalez each face a statutory maximum penalty of life imprisonment in federal prison.

The comprehensive investigation that led to the dismantling of the downtown Los Angeles stash house was conducted collaboratively by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration, with the case being prosecuted by the United States Attorney’s Office.
