A 32-year-old Miami woman is facing serious legal repercussions in South Florida after an evening rendezvous allegedly culminated in the disappearance of a luxury timepiece valued at nearly $100,000. Authorities have formally charged the suspect in connection with the incident, which occurred following a meeting at a local entertainment venue.
The defendant, identified in court records as Lynda Mae Crouse, is currently charged with second-degree felony grand theft. Under state statutes, the specific charge applies to alleged property theft involving items valued at more than $20,000 but less than $100,000, underscoring the high monetary stakes tied to the missing property.
According to a probable cause affidavit compiled by the Hallandale Beach Police Department, the sequence of events began shortly after midnight on April 12. The complainant encountered Crouse while spending time at the Carousel Club, a popular venue situated within Gulfstream Park in Hallandale Beach, Florida.
During their initial conversation at the venue, the pair struck up an acquaintance and decided to exchange their personal Instagram contact information. Following this brief interaction, both individuals initially parted ways and exited the premises independently, law enforcement records indicate.
The interaction resumed approximately an hour later when the man arranged and paid for an Uber ride to transport Crouse directly from her residence to his home. Upon her arrival at the residence, the two spent time together inside the property while consuming alcoholic beverages.
The situation took an unexpected turn when the host stepped away into his bedroom to change his attire. While inside the room, the man reported suddenly experiencing severe, unnatural fatigue and an overall sensation of feeling strange and incapacitated, according to sworn statements provided to detectives.
While in the bedroom struggling with these abrupt physical symptoms, the man reported hearing a distinct clapping sound emanating from the adjacent living room area. When he returned to the main room, he observed that Crouse’s demeanor had noticeably shifted, and she abruptly announced her intention to leave the premises.
Immediately following her departure, the complainant lost consciousness and fell into a deep sleep, heavily impacted by the sudden physical impairment. He remained asleep for several hours as the effects of the unknown condition persisted through the night.
Upon waking up hours later, the victim noted that he continued to feel abnormal physical effects and strongly suspected that he had been covertly drugged during the encounter. His suspicions deepened significantly when he inspected the specialized watch box kept in his living room and discovered it was empty.
The missing item was identified as an opulent 40 mm gold Rolex Presidential timepiece. The high-end watch was elaborately customized, boasting baguette diamond hour markers and a bezel fully encrusted with diamonds. To substantiate the loss, the owner submitted a signed professional appraisal documenting the timepiece's value at precisely $98,400.
Reflecting on the timeline of the evening, the complainant informed investigators that the distinct clapping sound he had overheard from the bedroom likely corresponded to the sharp snapping shut of his luxury watch storage box just prior to Crouse's hasty exit.
Although the victim provided a sworn recorded statement detailing his ongoing physical distress from what he believed was an ingested substance, no official medical treatment was sought, and no formal toxicology analysis was conducted in relation to the Hallandale Beach incident. However, detectives were able to advance the investigation when the complainant positively selected Crouse from a standard six-person photographic lineup.
Law enforcement authorities noted that the incident matches a broader pattern of illicit activity currently under active investigation across South Florida. Detectives highlighted at least four other active cases in neighboring Miami-Dade County that bear remarkably similar characteristics and methods.
In those related matters, investigators allege that Crouse deliberately targeted male patrons wearing high-end luxury watches at various nightclubs and bars. In each instance, she reportedly accompanied the men back to private residences or hotel rooms, after which the victims realized their expensive timepieces had disappeared.
The police affidavit specifically referenced one of the parallel Miami investigations where a targeted victim did submit to medical toxicology screenings. Those laboratory results confirmed the presence of zolpidem, a potent prescription sedative typically utilized to treat insomnia. Detectives noted that the debilitating physical symptoms described in that positive toxicology case closely mirrored the sensations reported by the Hallandale Beach victim.
Crouse was ultimately apprehended on September 11 after an officer with the Seminole Police Department came into contact with her in Hollywood, Florida, during an unrelated investigation into a trespassing complaint. A routine background check revealed the outstanding Broward County arrest warrant stemming from the April theft investigation, leading to her immediate custody and transfer to the Broward County Sheriff's Office jail.
Following her arrest, a Broward County magistrate reviewed the case on September 14, found sufficient probable cause for the grand theft charge, and set her bond at $2,500. As part of the judicial conditions, Crouse was strictly ordered to avoid all direct and indirect contact with the victim as the criminal proceedings move forward.
