Authorities in Terrebonne Parish have taken a 47-year-old Houma man into custody following a devastating string of stabbings that claimed the lives of four individuals and left a young child fighting for survival. The violent sequence of events unfolded in the Ashland community, triggering an intensive multi-residence homicide investigation by local law enforcement officers seeking to uncover the full circumstances of the deadly assault.
The suspect, identified by sheriff's officials as Kaegan Jude Solet, was apprehended and placed in detention on September 13. While Solet remains held in custody by authorities, formal criminal charges have not yet been filed as detectives continue processing physical evidence and finalizing their preliminary findings from the expansive crime scene.
The violent incident first came to light on September 12, when deputies from the Terrebonne Parish Sheriff’s Office were dispatched to an emergency call originating from the 200 block of Ashland Drive. Upon arriving at the designated residential area, responding officers discovered a juvenile victim suffering from severe, life-threatening stab wounds.
First responders immediately rendered aid to the injured juvenile, identified as a male under the age of 10, and recognized the critical need for specialized emergency trauma treatment. The young child was transported via helicopter to an out-of-area hospital facility, where medical personnel continue to treat him as he remains in critical condition following the traumatic assault.
Following the initial discovery of the wounded boy, sheriff’s deputies broadened their perimeter and conducted a thorough search of the immediate property. As law enforcement officers combed through the Ashland Drive location, their investigation quickly expanded from an aggravated assault call into a catastrophic multiple-fatality crime scene.
During their systematic search of the location, investigators uncovered four deceased individuals situated inside residences on the parcel. Law enforcement officials noted that the property involved in the investigation featured two separate residential houses situated on the very same plot of land, with two deceased victims discovered inside each respective home.
In total, authorities have accounted for five victims tied directly to the Ashland Drive stabbing incident. Among the five individuals harmed during the violent attack, four succumbed to fatal knife wounds on the property, while the solitary surviving victim—the young boy under age 10—remains hospitalized under intensive medical supervision.
Although the exact motive and specific timeline surrounding the fatal attacks remain under active review, law enforcement officials have sought to reassure the surrounding neighborhood regarding general public safety. Terrebonne Parish Public Information Officer Blake Tabor addressed the nature of the case, firmly noting to the public that the violent crime was certainly not a random act of violence.
Detectives with the Terrebonne Parish Sheriff's Office are actively maintaining an open investigation into the multi-victim tragedy. Crime scene technicians and investigators have continued examining both residences on the Ashland Drive property to document forensic evidence, collect physical items, and establish a clear timeline of the suspect's movements across the premises.
The arrest has brought renewed scrutiny to Solet's prior history within the local criminal justice system, revealing that the 47-year-old had previously faced serious violent felony accusations in Terrebonne Parish. Court records indicate that Solet was previously prosecuted in connection with a separate, high-profile stabbing incident that occurred several years ago.
In that earlier case, Solet was arrested and formally indicted on a charge of attempted second-degree murder stemming from a 2019 violent altercation at the Red Carpet Inn located within Houma. The previous prosecution centered on severe injuries inflicted on a woman during a confrontation at the local lodging establishment.
During the courtroom proceedings for that 2019 hotel stabbing, the victim, identified as Cindy Boudreaux, delivered direct testimony to the jury regarding the violence she experienced. Boudreaux told jurors that Solet struck her in the head with a wine bottle before proceeding to stab her multiple times during the encounter.
Taking the stand in his own defense during that trial, Solet addressed the jury regarding his background, trade, and personal living circumstances at the time of the altercation. He informed jurors that he worked as a professional shrimper by trade and explained that he had been experiencing homelessness for a period of time surrounding the 2019 incident.
That prior criminal trial ultimately concluded with an acquittal for the defendant. Jurors evaluated the evidence presented in the courtroom and returned a verdict finding Solet not guilty of the attempted second-degree murder charge tied to the Red Carpet Inn stabbing, sparing him from prison time in that case.
Now, years after his acquittal in the Houma motel trial, Solet once again finds himself at the center of a major sheriff's office investigation following an exponentially deadlier incident. The current probe continues to focus on establishing accountability for the four fatalities and the near-fatal stabbing of the young boy on Ashland Drive.
As the Terrebonne Parish community copes with the shock of the five stabbings, authorities emphasize that the investigation remains active and ongoing. Sheriff's officials expect further updates and formal charging decisions to be released as detectives complete their documentation of the Ashland Drive crime scenes.
