As summer approaches, Ohio travelers are being advised to prepare for a series of road construction and maintenance projects that will affect travel across the state. The projects, spanning multiple counties, include lane restrictions, closures, and detours, with some work set to last for several months.
In Allen County, Interstate 75 will experience periodic lane restrictions between National Road in the village of Cridersville and 4th Street in the city of Lima from July 26 to August 28. Additionally, the highway will be restricted to one lane between 4th Street and Stewart Road from August 24 to 28 for pothole patching. State Route 66, between the villages of Delphos and Spencerville, has reopened following a closure for full-width paving, but drivers should note that State Route 66/Main Street between First Street and Fifth Street in Delphos will close from September 16 to 20 for the annual Canal Days festival.
In Auglaize County, the shoulder near the I-75 Northbound Rest Area will be closed from August 24 to 28 for ditch work. Interstate 75 will also see intermittent overnight lane closures from May 18 through mid-August for cable rail installation. State Route 29 in the city of St. Marys will be reduced to a single lane from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. starting March 16, with traffic maintained by flagging operations as sidewalks are installed and signals upgraded. The bridge on State Route 219 between CR 95 and Bay Road closed on May 18 for approximately 90 days for reconstruction.
In Hardin County, State Route 37 at the Hancock and Hardin County line will close on August 31 for approximately 45 days for culvert replacement. U.S. 68/Detroit Street between Walnut Street and Perry Street will close on August 24 for approximately six days for railroad crossing repair. State Route 235 in the village of Ada will close on September 19 for the Harvest and Herb festival.
In Putnam County, State Route 65 between Belmore Street and Poplar Street in the village of Leipsic will close from September 18 to 20 for the village festival. State Route 114 and State Route 115 in the village of Kalida may experience temporary traffic impacts from July 27 to October 30 due to the construction of a shared-use path.
In Van Wert County, U.S. 30 is restricted to one lane in each direction due to the U.S. 30/John Brown Road restricted crossing U-turn (RCUT) construction. U.S. 30/John Brown Rd access is restricted to right-in/right-out movements only. The intersection of U.S. 224 and Lincoln Highway closed on July 3 for roundabout construction.
These projects are part of a larger effort to improve and maintain Ohio's infrastructure. While the construction work is necessary for long-term benefits, it will undoubtedly cause inconvenience for travelers. Drivers are encouraged to plan ahead, check road conditions before heading out, and expect delays. Local authorities are working to minimize disruptions, but patience and understanding are key during these projects.
